In January 2002, our team of three Canadian climbers from
Montreal and the Laurentians in Quebec will be attempting to
summit the highest peak outside the Himalayan range, also the
highest in the Americas:

Planning, preparing for and achieving this mountain climb, has been
a dream for the three of us and we would like to share this vision
that no personal goal is too lofty to attain and that life's challenges
can be seen as stepping stones leading to success. We believe
that through cooperation, dedication, perseverance and hard work,
ambitions can be realized.

Our highly motivated team of climbers consists of Anne Jeannet, a
CEGEP teacher, Jason Stewart, a senior high school student, and
Anne-Isabelle Cuvillier, an elementary school teacher. As strong
supporters of experiential education we have, in the past, helped
students and peers discover a deeper sense of self, a realization of
their inner strengths and an appreciation of others and the world
around them. By sharing this expedition with our students and
peers, (via our web site and newsletters) we hope to make them
aware of the exciting process involved in preparing for and living
out a high altitude expedition. We want them to realize that the
journey is as fulfilling as the destination…that the process is as
important as the outcome. Thus, we hope to motivate them to seek
out challenges and dreams and turn them into a positive reality that
encourages them to live this wonderful adventure that is life with
an open mind and broader outlook. In light of the new Quebec
Ministry of Education Curriculum reform, a lot has been said about
the lifelong learning experiences students should seek.

"Must we always teach our children with books?
Let them look at the mountains and the stars above.
Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth.
They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education."
